A 40-bed modular ward extension connected to an existing inpatient block, completed in just 20 weeks.
A regional NHS trust needed to add 40 inpatient beds to ease winter pressure, but could not close existing wards during construction. The new accommodation had to connect directly to a live ward.
We designed a single-storey modular building with eight 4-bed bays and eight single en-suite rooms, plus nurse station, treatment room, dirty utility and clean utility. The bulk of the structure was built off-site in parallel with site enabling works.

The ward opened to patients 20 weeks after order. The trust freed up beds in the main hospital and recorded the lowest mid-winter patient-flow delays in five years.
