The Challenge
The training provider faced urgent capacity constraints with student enrolment increasing by 40% year-on-year, particularly in electrical and plumbing apprenticeships. Traditional construction would have taken 18 months and disrupted ongoing training programmes, whilst budget constraints required a cost-effective solution that didn't compromise on educational standards. The facility needed modern, well-equipped classrooms that could accommodate both theoretical learning and practical demonstrations, complete with integrated technology and flexible layouts to support various training disciplines.
Our Solution
Vector Space Modular designed and manufactured a b ke two-storey classroom block featuring six adaptable teaching spaces, each equipped with interactive whiteboards, integrated AV systems, and flexible furniture arrangements. The modular design incorporated sustainable materials, energy-efficient LED lighting, and advanced HVAC systems to ensure optimal learning conditions year-round. Off-site construction allowed the building to be manufactured simultaneously with groundworks preparation, minimising disruption to the existing facility whilst ensuring full compliance with educational building standards and accessibility requirements.
The Results
The new classroom block successfully accommodated an additional 180 students per intake, representing a 45% increase in training capacity. Construction was completed three months ahead of traditional build timescales, allowing the provider to commence their expanded autumn programme as scheduled. Energy efficiency measures resulted in 30% lower operational costs compared to the existing buildings, whilst student satisfaction scores improved by 25% due to the enhanced learning environment and modern facilities.
